Subtle Matter 2020

Subtle Matter 2020

We are excited to announce that Subtle Matter 2020 will be available online and for take-away/collection at our cellar door from 12pm (Sydney time) on Friday 9 April 2021.

Subtle Matter 2020 is a golden barrel-matured Australian Wild Ale aged on basket pressed Semillon wine grape skins after six months in contact with its own wine. In July 2020, six months after a January 2020 harvest and commencing of maceration of the fruit, the wine was racked off, the skins basket pressed and then on the same day added back to tank and covered with beer from barrel 1924, a young (4 month old) barrel of Gold using organic grain. The beer was allowed to macerate with the fruit until bottling in January 2021.

The second release of this blend (link to first release) shows on the nose notes of lemongrass, paperbark, smoked herbaceous elements and cool alpine spice. A compact palate, sweet fruit upfront with firm grippy structure. Textual and full, with an earthy citrus balance. Clean acidity and funk to close.

Once again a limited amount of fruit yielded a small blend and as such, this beer will be available from our website or cellar door only, and unfortunately will not be available by the glass.

Subtle Matter is bottled into 750ml bottles and 1.5 litre magnum and is 5.0% ABV. We will have 150 bottles [limit of 2 p/p] and 4 magnums [limit of 1 p/p] available online on Friday 9 April at 12pm Sydney time as well as 96 bottles available at cellar door. Sorry no wholesale.
