This is an exceptionally special ale. For over two years, organic grenache and shiraz juice from wood vineyard in McLaren Vale, SA sat and matured with freshly brewed Wildflower Gold in a single 2,200 litre foudre. For 30 months, these two disparate threads melded into something singularly unique bearing the fingerprint of both makers.
We count ourselves fortunate to be friends with James and Sophie and this drink is such a lovely representation of that friendship. James' impact on the Australian wine scene cannot be overstated, especially wines that are intentionally farmed and vinified with a light hand. He is described as "sincere and thoughtful in his intentions, authentic in his approach, incredibly precise in the winery and insanely passionate about his craft. These wines belong on the dining tables of the best restaurants in Australia; they are deep, structured and wonderfully characterful."
At release, the ale pours a vibrant crimson with a standing head. The aromas are reminiscent of the grenache with heaps of cherry and raspberry backed up with white pepper and anise. The beer comes on the palate lending carbonation, of course, but also a structure that shows the shiraz with a bitterness that matches the tannin. Its unbelievably tasty, this drink, and I am exceptionally proud to offer it.
